Tyler’s Latest Creation

Not content with spending a good portion of this year being on the cover of every magazine and the subject of every on-line hub of reportage, Tyler, The Creator has now taken on the world of fashion. Now before you get too alarmed, this is not Haute couture but a somewhat natural extension of the skate-style that has come to typify Tyler and his Odd Future cohorts. Having provided a more than significant boost to Supreme’s brand image through the constant donning of their signature caps, Tyler and co. have since gone on to feature in shoots for the company’s spring/summer collection, a move that has perhaps indicated to them how transferable their image is to the fine art of selling clothes on a mass scale. You can’t really blame them, for a good while now the narrow range of t-shirts available in the typical ‘band merch’ style has clearly failed to saturate the market keen to ascribe to the Odd Future image and having seen with his own eyes the boost in popularity amongst his peers of Supreme (primarily down to his own championing of it) its a smart move from Tyler and/or his people to further expand the groups growing creative portfolio.

In typical fashion (no pun intended) the OFWGKTA family have taken a somewhat offbeat approach to the look book for their ‘Golf Wang Holiday 1991′ collection, by heading to the Amusement Park and generally acting all Odd Future (cue obligatory photo of Tyler hunched over being sick) articulating further the ‘fuck you’ attitude for which they have become notorious. The collection has all the staples; hoodys, t-shirts, caps, knee-high socks, skate decks and even plasters  should you graze yourself when that ollie just doesn’t land like it does when you’re playing Tony Hawk’s.

The collection is available in full at a Fairfax-based pop-up store located at 410 N. Fairfax 90036, L.A. which will operate until mid-January. For those of you who don’t live in L.A., some of the collection will be available on-line from the Odd Future site

. So, will this prove to be an extended band merch thing or will the Odd Future gang be able to follow in Pharell Williams’ footsteps and roll this thing out like he has Billionaire Boys Club? Well, only time will tell, but one thing is for sure…they aren’t afraid of trying.
