Purity Ring – Obedear

It seems as though 4AD

have become synonymous with harbouring the finest Canadian acts. Not content with already having one of this years most acclaimed artist’s—Vancouver born, Grimes—on their books, 4AD  have confirmed a few weeks ago that they had signed ‘future pop’ duo Purity Ring, with a début album expected to be released in July. The Toronto-based pair comprising of Corin Roddick and Megan James produce eerie and expertly layered pieces of trembling electro pop with a sinister and dark undertone, reminiscent at times of the genre’s recent masters The Knife. Perhaps more akin to Salem in the nature of Roddick’s arrangements, the sounds we have heard from Purity Ring are indeed promising and their latest release ‘Obedear’ which is available as a free download here  does not disappoint.

The band are set to briefly pop to Europe in June, playing Vondelkerk in Amsterdam on Tuesday 5th, followed by the infamous Berghain Kantine on Friday 8th, otherwise they are touring the US and Canada with dates confirmed so far until mid-July.
