Late Nite Tuff Guy – Glow / I Want U Back In My Bed (2012)

Late Nite Tuff Guy , aka Carmelo Bianchetti or DJ HMC, the Adelaide-based Australian producer has been one to watch out for in recent years, delivering a glorious selection of disco and boogie edits of a mixture of popular and more obscure tracks.

In continuation of this impressive series, Glow , released on the excellent label Disco Deviance

, is a reworking of post-disco Italian-American group Change, who formed in 1979 and were strongly inspired by Chic.

Entitled ‘The Glow of Love

‘ the track comes from the album of the same name sold a million copies in the U.S. and is brilliantly revisited by the Australian producer, without overlooking the quality of the original. The beat is more house than disco during the introduction, reinforced by a drum machine to which Late Nite Tuff Guy holds the secret (808? 909? …). The different parts of bass, piano and guitar emerge and gradually become entangled, filtered and sampled a bit like French house in its hey day, before giving way to a beautiful song, from none other than Luther Vandross, who was revealed to the public with this album before embarking on a solo career.

The B side, “I Want U Back In My Bed”, is more conventional but just as effective. The song is none other than ‘Borrowed Love

‘ from The SOS Band, released in 1986, which was then positioned at the fiftieth spot in the UK charts.
