In sole command of the good ship Kindness is Englishman Adam Bainbridge, a talented and enigmatic character who seems to have so far ducked all but a slither of media exposure. His first album, World, You Need A Change Of Mind (a reference to “Girl, You Need A Change Of Mind” by Eddie Kendricks released by Motown in 1973) came out on the 19th of March.

The single “Gee Up”

, from the album, is a slice of UFO disco-funk lasting an unlikely 1 minue 52 seconds, which appeared for the first time about two years ago as a demo, when Bainbridge’s Kindness project first surfaced. Since then, the French producer Philippe Zdar (Cassius) has given the track his two-penneth and the sound has grown as a result. With relentless rhythm guitars and bouncy funk, the song takes off quickly thanks to the dreamy pop tones of Adam Bainbridge’s vocals. The rest of the album is incredibly varied, with songs such as ‘Cyan’ reminiscent Arthur Russell, ‘Swingin Party’, a minimalist elcectro cover of a song by The Replacements and ‘That’s alright’, which reinvents sounds new jack swing forgotten long ago.

Adam Bainbridge is undeniably a talented boy he should be monitored, especially seeing as he is not short on humour as evident in the video for ‘Gee Up’, a longer version of which has been created by duo Cosmic Kids and is available as a  free download on Soundclound
