Onur Engin – Edits Volume Seven (2012)

SMALL payday loans VERY CHEAP

Back with a selection of  boogie tracks from around the world, is Turkish mastermind Onur Engin as he yet again delights us with his subtle, groovy and haunting edits of past classics and hidden gems alike.

“Step Into The Light” is an incredible piece of Japanese funk which kicks off the record and comes courtesy of  Toshiki Kadomatsu, a track first released on his album After 5 Clash. Apart from Onur Engin removing the rap (which was perhaps the only means of being able to detect the song’s  Japanese origin), it is almost impossible to work out the differences from the 1984 original

in this edit given the poor quality of samples on the net.

Next up is “I’ll Be Good” the ninth single from American duo Rene & Angela, which reached fourth place of the U.S. R&B charts back in 1985. Unsurprisingly re-worked beyond the dub mix released on 45, the Turkish producer is known for a more muscular rhythm, with breaks and emphasised synth bass added. Engin again removes the lead vocals, making it a perfect piece to ignite the crowd. While the Edit can be enjoyed at the bottom of the article, we managed to hunt down the official video to the original track and (as you’ll see) its far too good not to share with you.

In a genre perhaps best described as garage-boogie, “Do It To The Music” is the American band’ Raw Silk’s first single

, which reached fifth place in the U.S. Dance charts in 1982. In this case, Engin’s re-working leaves the lead vocals and saz solo untouched presenting instead a re-designed classic, updated rather than understated if you will.

The record climaxes with the excellent “Nomalizo

” from South African jazz singer Letta Mbulu which is masterfully retouched by a expert of the edit. The track is slightly accelerated, with a rhythm section more “dance” than the original, but make no mistake, this piece of Afro-boogie does not loose any of its groove and elegance, thanks to the captivating voice of Letta Mbulu. Nomalizo!
