While we often champion up and coming photographers and artists here at KLLKT, there’s no harm in featuring the occasional big-hitter and that’s precisely what we have lined up today. Antonella Arismendi has a frankly galling client list and a beautiful array of mystical and intriguing fashion photography to her name.

We managed to grab a quick word with her during her constant fluttering between Barcelona and Buenos Aires to get her thoughts on what is already a phenomenal body of work, but shows no signs of tailing off any time soon.

KLLKT: As a photographer and art director, which do you have more passion for?

Antonella Arismendi: I find more inspiring to work as an art director and create the whole story to be then photographed, shooting is only the last part of the process.

K: You have been commissioned for all manner of publications, is commercial work a good way of forcing you to explore new ideas
photographically?

AA: No. Most of the work that helps explore new ideas are my own things. Self produced editorials, collaborative work, etc.

K: Much of your work has a mystical feel, sometimes toying with the surreal. What is it about this sort of aesthetic that excites you?

AA: I really don’t know, I am connected with the galactic source.

K: I couldn’t help but notice that you mention growing up with Twin Peaks, were you a big fan of the show and do you think it or Lynch’s surrealist style have gone on to influence your work in any way?

AA: Yes, but i wouldn’t be able to spot where or how. its something you grow up with and its saved to your subconscious, sooner or later you end up going back there.

K: Do you consider yourself a fashion/art photographer or are you as passionate about your travel photography?

AA: I love traveling, photography pays the ticket.

K: You’re based in both Buenos Aires and Barcelona, what is it about each city that means you can’t leave it entirely for the other?

AA: Thankfully there’s work to do here and there. Actually I am constantly trying to add more cities to that list.
