It’s sort of difficult to write a mission statement when you’re ambiguous about your aims. It isn’t that we lack ideas, or thoughts. It’s that we have too many to squeeze into some contrived box. That old diamond, Susan Sontag, once said ‘My idea of a writer: Someone interested in everything‘. Because those little manuals on how to play a casio keyboard, or the difference in wingspan of a European or African swallow, or how you really make authentic hash browns are what interests us. But there’s only so much you can achieve from sitting around and being dazzled by the world, we want everyone else to see it too. So, we formed this medium to share it. While we might write about some things more than others, it doesn’t mean that we don’t love it all. We want to make all these things that we find so fascinating, more accessible for you. We hope you appreciate it.

Kollektivnye was an apt title for us. Being the Russian for ‘collective’, it has a dash of Orientalism whilst keeping a few safe paces away from that band. We are a grouping of students and artists based around the world (New York, Manchester, Paris and London) yet contributors sprout from everywhere. You could be one of them. Kollektivnye is a fluid, transcendental beast, but we don’t have barriers to entry. We aren’t superior to you, we aren’t even different to you, so come join us.

    with love,
